The Design Story
醸 (kamosu) is the Japanese character for brewing — but not the mechanical kind. Not the “press a button” kind. This is the philosophical one. It means to transform, to cultivate, to let time and craft do the work. A sake brewer uses this word. A person shaping culture uses this word. It’s the slow process of something becoming more than what it started as. That’s why it’s on the crewneck and not 淹れ方 (irekata) — the practical “how to brew.”
Rendered in Zen Antique brush calligraphy — the same font used across the entire Kanji Collection — the character takes the full chest. No Bert. No illustration. Just the kanji, the English translation underneath, and the brand line in katakana at the bottom. The kind of piece where someone asks “what does that mean?” and the answer starts a real conversation. See the full Kanji Collection →

About the Kanji 醸
醸 (kamosu) means “to brew” in the philosophical sense — transformation, cultivation, the slow craft of something becoming more than raw material. It’s the word a sake brewer uses, the word for shaping culture over time. It carries patience, craft, and intention.
淹れ方 (irekata) is the practical “how to brew” — instructions, mechanics, steps. We chose 醸 because coffee at its best isn’t a set of instructions. It’s a transformation.
